Why are referring domains more important than total backlinks?
Google values link diversity highly. 1,000 backlinks from a single domain counts far less than 100 backlinks from 100 different domains. Referring domain count is the clearest signal of genuine editorial endorsement across the web. Always compare referring domains — not raw link counts — when evaluating competitive backlink profiles.
