Text Separator & Splitter
Split text by any delimiter (comma, pipe, tab, or custom) into a line-by-line list. Or join lines back into a delimited string. Instant, no signup.
How to Split and Join Text
The tool has two modes. In Split mode, paste a delimited string and pick your delimiter — the tool breaks it into individual parts, one per line. In Join mode, paste one item per line and pick a delimiter to merge them back into a single string.
Common workflow: CSV to list
You have a CSV row: apple, banana, cherry, date. Switch to Split mode, set delimiter to comma, enable "Trim whitespace", paste the row. You get four clean lines ready to paste into another tool, run through duplicate removal, or process further.
Common workflow: list to CSV
You have a column of values from a spreadsheet, one per line. Switch to Join mode, set the delimiter to , (comma-space), paste the list, get back a comma-separated string for use in a formula, URL, or API call.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a text separator tool used for?
Common uses: splitting CSV data by commas to get individual values, splitting pipe-delimited exports into lists, converting comma-separated keyword lists into one-per-line format for other tools, and joining line-by-line data back into a single delimited string for spreadsheet import. SEOs use it regularly when moving data between tools that use different formats.
How do I split text by a tab character?
Select the 'Tab' quick delimiter button, or manually type a tab character into the delimiter field. Tab-separated values (TSV) are a common export format from spreadsheets — pasting them into the splitter with Tab as the delimiter gives you one column value per line. Make sure 'Trim whitespace' is off if your values contain intentional leading/trailing spaces.
Can I split by a multi-character delimiter?
Yes. The delimiter field accepts any string, not just single characters. You can split by ' | ' (space-pipe-space), ' → ', 'AND', or any other multi-character sequence. Just type it directly into the delimiter input field.
What's the difference between split and join mode?
Split mode takes a single string and breaks it into multiple parts based on a delimiter. Join mode does the opposite — it takes multiple lines (one item per line) and combines them into a single string with your chosen delimiter between each item. Both modes are useful in different data transformation workflows.
